1896 Henry Flagler's railroad had jump-started
the growth of South Florida.

In just a little
over a century, South Florida has exploded
into an international hot spot and gateway to the
world.
The Florida
East Coast Railway, owned by Henry
Morrison Flagler, reached Miami in 1896. Convinced
by Julia
Tuttle and William and Mary Brickell,
Flagler agreed to extend his railroad
south from West Palm Beach, build a luxurious hotel,
and lay
out the city of Miami. It was during this time
that people began to flood in from everywhere.
