March 22-26, 2004
At the Hyatt Regency in Miami, Florida

Fostering partnerships through the Wider Caribbean Region, the WW2BW initiative and conference focuses on the following three objectives:

- Strengthening national and regional capacity to implement cross-sectoral watershed and marine ecosystem-based management

- Facilitating closer cooperation and good governance within and among nations, regional agencies and civil society in coastal and marine resource management, water management, health, environmental protection, agriculture, and urban planning.

- Engaging business partners in the major growth sectors, such as tourism and marine transportation, to promote best business and environmental practices, and to support regional activities in watershed and marine coastal management.

The conference is designed to provide maximum opportunity for thoughtful discussion, exchange, and to encourage partnering through four overlapping theme areas:

- Integrated Watershed Management

- Marine Ecosystem-based Management

- Sustainable Tourism

- Environmentally Sound Marine Transportation

WW2BW will also focus on several cross-cutting topics – Education and Training, Green Markets , Climate Change and Natural Hazards, and Marine Science.

The WW2BW Conference anticipates the following:

- Creating public-private partnerships by bringing together national delegations from each of the 28 Wider Caribbean Region countries, El Salvador, and Brazil.

- Networking and brainstorming about best practices and novel ways to address national and regional watershed and marine ecosystem-based management needs

- Providing training in methods and tools that can be used to establish and sustain appropriate management processes

The outcome of the WW2BW Conference may serve as the blueprint for future programs on watershed and marine ecosystem-based management in Africa and the South Pacific.
