Translating Sustainable Development Policy into Practice

The Institute@... is committed to translating sustainable development policies into practice. By providing practical, high quality training to participants of key United Nation’s (UN) and other international meetings and supporting course participants long-term through its website, The Institute@... raises the capacity of individuals and, ultimately, society to change things for the better. Instructors are professional trainers with an in-depth knowledge of sustainable development issues or experts in sustainable development with significant training experience. Courses are designed with a “how to” approach and an intent to increase specific skills needed to implement sustainable development objectives.

The White Water to Blue Water Initiative (WW2BW) is designed to promote the practice of integrated watershed management in support of sustainable development throughout the wider Caribbean.  The primary objectives include:

  • Strengthening national and regional institutional capacity to implement cross-sectoral watershed and marine ecosystem-based management.
  • Facilitating closer cooperation and good governance within and among nations, regional agencies and civil society in coastal and marine resource management, water management, health, environmental protection, agriculture, and urban planning.
  • Engaging business partners in the major growth sectors, such as tourism and marine transportation, to promote best business and environment practices, and to support regional activities in watershed and marine coastal management.

The Institute@WW2BW plans to offer training courses in the following thematic areas:

  • Integrated Watershed Management
  • Marine Ecosystems
  • Sustainable Tourism
  • Environmentally Sound Marine Transportation
