Note for visa applicants to the USA for WW2BW Conference

The following are key points for entry to the USA:

With the appropriate lead-time, the WW2BW conference can assist the applicant by providing a letter of invitation directly to the US embassy or consulate in your country as well as to the applicant. A letter of invitation does not guarantee a visa will be issued but represents required "good faith" support to your visit. All decisions on visas are made by the US Department of State. The WW2BW conference has no jurisdiction on these matters.

Please keep in mind that security needs have greatly altered the application and processing time of visas. It is highly recommended that applicants apply well in advance for a visa.

International colleagues should look up the visa requirements on the website of their local American embassy or consulate web site and follow these rules strictly. Web sites can be accessed through www.travel.state.gov under the link "About Consular Affairs", "U.S. Embassy and Consulate Websites." At this link you will see the requirements vary by country, some applicants must have appointments, some take walk-in interviews, etc. Many Embassies require an invitation letter from the organizers by faxed (or emailed) directly to the embassy as well as a copy being sent to the applicant.

Due to visa processing time, invitation letters will not be issued less than 2 weeks prior to the conference.

Issuance of an invitation letter does not guarantee a visa. Visa applicants need to strictly follow the requirements of the visa application and provide all necessary papers.

Please provide the name, full address, email, fax and phone of the appropriate contact at the US embassy or consulate directly to gatesin@state.gov so that an invitation letter mat be sent on your behalf with ample advance notice.
