Digital Communications Assistant (Casual Worker)

This position will provide digital communications support for University of Miami Alumni Association (UMAA) and reports directly to the Director of Communications and Digital Strategy. Primary responsibilities are focused on conceptualizing and creating compelling content for the UMAA’s social media and website presence in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Digital Strategy. The individual will also assist the Director of Online Communication with web projects and page updates to ensure content is fresh and up-to-date. As needed, the individual will assist with email marketing, design and other multimedia projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills and creative ideas for engaging audiences, close attention to detail, a strong work ethic and is comfortable working independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate has experience using social media platforms for a brand/organization as well as experience with HTML/CSS and Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Knowledge of PHP/MYSQL backend systems and video editing skills are a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with development and regular updating of the UMAA content/social calendar.
Conceptualize and create viral, relevant social media and web content that complements UM and UMAA programs, announcements and initiatives. Tests social media tactics and messages across UMAA suite of platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Execute social media activities including tweeting, sharing, engaging, liking and increasing social reach.
Offer thoughtful and creative online content ideas and alumni story ideas.
Write and edit content for the UMAA website and social media channels. This may include alumni stories and freshening up content for program pages.
Review all UMAA web pages for outdated content and inconsistencies, and identify new program elements that need to be added/updated. Review all webpages for cross browser compatibility.
Assist with making HTML/CSS web updates in Adobe Dreamweaver as directed by the Director of Online Communication and UMAA program staff.
Assist with design of digital content in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign as needed.
Provide support in the scheduling and/or creation of html design for emails targeting alumni from units campus-wide, in line with UMAA email guidelines.
Assist in tracking of web analytics and search engine optimization.
Assist with other communications tasks as needed, including management of content for UMAA multimedia platforms (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr).
Education and Training: Baccalaureate degree preferred with major emphasis in Communications/Public Relations/Marketing preferred.
