The University of Miami is one of the great success stories of American private higher education. Since its inception in 1925, the University has grown steadily in quality and reputation. UM is consistently ranked among the nation's top research universities in U.S. News & World Report's “Best Colleges” issue. The Momentum campaign, the first successful billion-dollar campaign by a private research university founded in the 20th century, concluded in 2007 having raised a remarkable $1.4 billion. In May 2015 the University successfully concluded its remarkable $1.6 billion Momentum2 campaign, providing an even stronger foundation for continued improvement. With a new generation of academic leadership in place and with the vision and guidance of an extraordinary president, the University of Miami is ready for the next decade of progress.

On May 2, 2008 the Board of Trustees formally approved a new strategic plan for the University, entitled “Accelerating Ambition.” The plan calls for an investment of $2.75 billion over the next ten years in faculty, research infrastructure, graduate programs, undergraduate education, and facilities. These investments will enable us to attract and sustain world-class faculty, to build a broad range of nationally prominent graduate programs, and to develop a distinctive and more residential undergraduate experience for our diverse and increasingly talented and accomplished student body. These strategic investments will advance the University of Miami towards fulfilling its distinctive potential in research, education, and service to our community.
