Community leader Adrienne Arsht, chairman
of the Board of Directors of TotalBank, has made a $1
million gift to benefit UM’s Ethics Programs. The
gift will enhance an already successful program that
has been in existence at UM for 15 years under the leadership
of Anita Cava, J.D., of the School of Business Administration,
and Kenneth Goodman, Ph.D., of the Miller School of Medicine
and Department of Philosophy, College of Arts and Sciences.
“Ethics are at the core of everything we do. By
incorporating ethics into most fields of study, the University
of Miami
is providing a vision for leadership in this community,” says
Arsht.
The $1 million gift equals the largest
previous donation for ethics in the state of Florida.
The gift will aid
expansion into three primary areas: the Arsht Ethics
Debate, the Arsht Ethics Speaker Series, and the Arsht
Fellowships in Ethics and Community.
“The Arsht gift gives us an unprecedented opportunity,” says
Goodman, associate professor of medicine and philosophy
and director of the UM Bioethics Program. “From
medical ethics to environmental ethics to business ethics,
we’re looking forward to an exciting suite of innovative
research projects and distinguished speakers.”
