The St. Baldrick’s Foundation
presented $25,000 to the University of Miami Miller
School of Medicine last September to fund lifesaving
childhood cancer research.
“This donation from the St.
Baldrick’s Foundation
is very important for us to support pediatric oncology
research,” said Stuart R. Toledano, M.D., professor
of pediatrics and a
specialist in pediatric hematology/
oncology. “For us it’s been a godsend because
we don’t get any hospital funding for our research
associate, which is more than a full-time job. This gift
from St. Baldrick’s supports our research associate
and her work—which enables us to pursue support
from the Children’s Oncology Group, a critical
source of our research funding.”
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation
raises money and awareness globally for
childhood cancer research through its volunteer-driven
events where participants shave their heads for the
cause.
“I’m delighted to be
here, and it’s our pleasure
at the foundation to be able to work with one of
the best pediatric oncology centers in the country,” said
Francis Feeney, member of the board of directors
of St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Since its inception seven years
ago, St. Baldrick’s
events have raised over $20 million for childhood cancer
research. |
